It was so exciting to have FCPS Superintendent Scott Brabrand at Graham Road ES! Mrs. Badini, front office staff, and even the school mascot gave Dr. Brabrand a big Graham Road welcome.

During his visit, the superintendent spent time in Mr. Wan Ji Lee’s art room. They talked about opening hearts and minds through art, and developing creative and critical thinking opportunities in a diverse and caring learning environment.

Dr. Brabrand also participated in an art lesson–creating self-portraits–with a first grade class. As part of the lesson, Mr. Lee read Do You Have a Hat? by Eileen Spinelli. He had different paper hats that each student held up upon seeing the picture of his or her hat in the book. Even Dr. Brabrand had a special paper hat!

The students had a great time. Mr. Lee is an amazing art teacher, and we are thrilled to have him at our school. By the way, Mr. Lee was an FCPS student, too. He graduated from Lee HS, in Springfield.

After saying “Goodbye” to Mr. Lee and his students, Dr. Brabrand and Mrs. Badini talked about the power of connecting with students. Mrs. Badini explained that students are able to do their best work when they know they are cared for and supported.

At the end of his visit, the superintendent was surprised to see several parents awaiting him in the front office. They spoke in Spanish about the parents’ experiences at our school and took lots of photos.

Thank you for coming to Graham Road, Dr. Brabrand. We hope you will come back soon!
