In recent weeks, Second Grade students studied weather during science. During the unit, students learn how weather and seasonal changes affect the growth and behavior of plants and animals. They also learn how measuring, recording, and interpreting weather data allows for the identification of weather patterns and to prepare for storms. Students also understand the types of storms have specific characteristics that can be used to identify them.

On April 24, 2024, Second Grade students celebrated their learning with a visit from ABC7's Meteorologist, Mark Pena. During the visit, Mr. Pena taught the students about clouds, wind, storms, and types of weather tools. Students asked questions and made comments about the weather, while showcasing their weather projects. Mr. Pena featured our students during the Live showing of Good Morning Washington.

Thank you to our Science Resource Teacher, Mrs. Donna Jones, and to our community partner, the American Association of University Women (AAUW) - McLean, for organizing and sponsoring this event.
